Somme Battlefields Visit 9th September 2008
The ceremony, on 9th September 2008, will honour Walter Alexander of Bergh Apton who lost his life on 1st July 1916. He was one of the 733 casualties from the 801 men of the Newfoundland Regiment who had gone “over the top” at 9.30 that morning. The group will visit battlefields, cemeteries and memorials of all eleven of the Bergh Apton boys who died on the Somme between 1916 and 1918.

One of the major events of the forthcoming tour of the Somme battlefields by a group from Bergh Apton will be a wreath-laying ceremony in the Newfoundland Memorial Park at Beamont Hamel.
