Wednesday 4th November 2009 The Remembrance Day service this Sunday 8th November will be special for people coming from all directions to be with us in Bergh Apton to pay their respects to men in their families who are remembered on our war memorial. The Hallett's for example, are coming from Church Stretton in Shropshire to honour their uncle whio died in Burma . . then going to the village hall for a bowl of soup and a coffee. . . but then, because they are a working family, they will set of in the afternon to drive right back to Church Stretton! Brian Lovewell, now in his eighties, is going to try and come from Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire to remember his brother Jack who was killed over the Bay of Biscay in his Stirling bomber. If Brain is too unwell his brother-in-law will come. He, too, will drive all the way back again on Sunday. We would be very grateful, and I know they will too, if we of this generation of the village can attend in good numbers . . . to join them in thanking the boys who left the village and their families to fight for us. If you can spare part of the morning for the service . . and would like to share the soup and coffee with us afterwards . . . you will go away in good heart and so will our guests. We hope you can come John Ling and Chris Johnson PS In the Village Hall there will be an exhibition of photographs and stories of the men who were killed in 1944 to mark the passing of sixty five years.
