Bergh Apton Sculpture Trail – 2011 The Mystery Play A Mighty Water - Noah's Ark retold
To develop the theme, concept and title of the 2011 Trail and to bring it to a climax a Mystery Play has been especially commissioned for performance on three evenings
The play has been written by the renowned storyteller and writer, Hugh Lupton. On the first stage of its development Hugh visited the village and with 30 residents brainstormed ideas for inclusion. These ideas have given the story of 'Noah's Ark' a contemporary interpretation and a local context. The Play will be light-hearted in mood, whilst addressing today’s issues - most particularly, global warming and rising sea-levels, providing a particular resonance in Norfolk and East Anglia with its threatened fens, broads and coastline.
The village community is performing the Play and narrated by Hugh Lupton. On two evenings the players will be borne by horse and cart from the village hall and the performance will take place in the church and churchyard in the tradition of medieval mystery plays.
The culmination of “The Journey” will be three performances for visitors to the Trail of this contemporary version of the Bible story.
at Bergh Apton church of Sts Peter & Paul
Saturday 21 May at 5.15pm Saturday 28 May at 5.15pm, & Sunday 5 June at 6.30pm
This Mystery Play has been made possible by generous support from the Arts Council (Lottery Funded), The Diocese of Norwich (The Mission Support Fund), and The Anne French Charitable Trust.
