Bergh Apton's Sculpture Trails -
Balance 2008
Balance', the 5th Bergh Apton Sculpture Trail was opened by Paul King OBE, Patron of Norfolk Contemporary Arts Society, on Thursday 22 May. Reference was made to a recent record sale of contemporary art and the gauntlet was thrown to assembled guests. The quality of the exhibits was apparent from the four preview gardens, as exciting pre sales figures reflected. Perfect weather conditions heralded the first full day of the Sculpture Trail on Saturday 24 May. Over 1,300 walkers and cyclists enjoyed the 12 gardens open around the village. Important works from 61 sculptors were complemented by a workshop led by Shona sculptor, Hilary Manuwha, and also entertainment from musicians in the gardens. On Sunday, despite the continuous driving rain the trail still attracted 160 visitors. The sales challenge successfully enticed buyers and works to the value of £25,000 sold during this first weekend. Comments from visitors:- “I've been looking forward to the Trail for 3 years, this year's was the best day out I've ever had.”
- “I applaud the best ever programme. I applaud the Trail theme. I applaud the focus on walk/bike & transport reduction.”
