Symbiosis 1999

Foreword from Sir Philip Dowson, CBE, President, Royal Acadamy of Arts..

Since 1997 and Bergh Apton's first Sculpture Trail, the visual arts have generated and unusual degree of press coverage and it is good to know that they can arouse such strong feelings and splendid controversy. Culture is not divisible and I admire the ambition behind Symbiosis, embracing arts, gardens and poetry.

From the organisers.
Bergh Apton is a village of makers and shakers. In 1992 Bergh Apton had a dream. The first part of which was the open of some of the villages secret gardens to the public. A resounding success. The next stage was opening up the village in all its mystery, its gardens, its businesses and farms, its curios and fancies. Again the theme attracted a large number of people. These acorns have grown into a massive oak tree - The Bergh Apton Sculpture Trail. This, the second trail is planned in response to the overwhelming acclaim of the first, and is called Symbiosis.

symbiosis [simbi-Osis] n (biol) association of similar organisms to their mutual advantage... The Penguin English Dictionary
