By Youth Club leader Jacqui Hill At the start of this new year, we welcomed a new youth worker to Bergh Apton Club, Sarah Woodger. After being interviewed by the BYRUS committee, including 3 teenagers, Sarah was appointed by the Bramerton Group of Churches to work specifically with Bergh Apton youth club. HOW CAN WE AFFORD TWO YOUTH WORKERS? We’re very grateful that a new government funding initiative for youth clubs that Rev Knight applied for, has produced the finance to employ Sarah. With the club dramatically expanding in numbers recently, particularly with the older age group, it’s a timely development and such a blessing for all of us! Sarah is in her twenties, attractive and bubbly, with lots of new ideas. A mother to two young children - Ethan 7, and Eliza 3 , her lovely husband Mark is very supportive and happy to do the ‘bedtime routine’ I will continue to work at the club and co-ordinate the rota, but attend on different weeks, working alongside Sarah. However Sarah will be there to lead the club every week, for both the Y (11- 13s) and X ( 14 –17s) groups, assisted by our rota of adult helpers. Although the Y group is currently smaller, about nine regulars, we are encouraging some new year 6s (top class of middle school) to come and join us. We also hope for more girls, for both Y and X age groups! The older X group has about 17 young people. Quite patently the need is there, for a youth club which provides a safe place to meet friends and relax. Sarah’s appointment makes it more sustainable, so we’re all thrilled. She has a lot of experience in spite of her age -she was previously a youth worker in Newton Flotman before moving to Chedgrave. She is also a trained drugs counsellor and able to educate on the dangers of drugs. So welcome on board Sarah- it’s great to have you!
