By Linda Davy What a wonderful evening was hosted on Thursday 19th July 2007 in the Village Hall by the Youth Club. For just £5.00 per person we enjoyed an Italian style meal whilst our cars were being washed in the car park. Diners were greeted by cheerful young people and seated at pretty tables decorated with fresh flowers. Olives and garlic bread were served, followed by a choice of vegetable lasagne, spaghetti bolognaise or cheese and tomato pizza all served with a green salad. Dessert was either strawberry pavlova or strawberry flan. The meal ended with tea or coffee (and our table had fresh melon slices as well!) The Youth Club arranged this event because they wanted to do something positive for the community. They therefore decided to raise money to give to the village hall. The whole event was a great success. Led by leaders Jacqui Hill and Sarah Woodger, the young people and other helpers produced and served a wonderful meal. The standard of food and smart appearance of all involved would put many a commercial restaurant to shame. The immaculately dressed waiters looked after their tables with care and an impressive attention to detail. Their charming smiles and friendly manner made us all feel very special. A choice of four, very exotic, non-alcoholic cocktail were mixed by very competent cocktail waiters. How unfortunate that a number of volunteers did not appear on the night, I hope their fellow youth club members will have words with them! This meant that there were only two boys, gallantly assisted by Sarah’s mum, who worked non-stop to wash all the cars. Our thanks go out to A J Ward, butchers, in Loddon who gave all the meat used in the meal. A lot of charm had gone into the procurement of a large number of raffle prizes, many of whom had been donated by local businesses. Thank you to the following, as well as a number of anonymous donors: Old Feathers Carvery, Bergh Apton Post Office, Highways Nursery, the Loddon businesses of the Co-Op, Select Meats, Moss Chemists, the Video Shop, Garden and Seeds, and Youngs. Also “Jim’ll have it” and Chet Stores in Chedgrave. I hope no-one has been left out, there were so many wonderful prizes it was difficult to keep up! Almost £300 pounds were raised and will given to the Village Hall.
