Village Hall Upgrade

An application, for the village hall upgrade scheme, has been sent to the South Norfolk Planning Dept.

Trevor Price, to whom we offer many thanks, has put the planning application together.

Once planning permission has been given, we will then apply for the grants required to undertake the work. We have in the region of £63K in the bank that is ear marked for the project.

The Bergh Apton Local History Group Heritage Centre is in the plan as well as a larger kitchen, disabled toilet and a larger storage area. The old part of the 1953 hall will be retained and refurbished with an additional floor area adjacent to the kitchen.

Painting Work

Because of the delay in the plan it was decided that the outside of the hall should be painted. This was undertaken during week commencing 31st August and completed on Sunday 6th September. Thanks are due to the following members of the committee, Evy Sayer, Poppy Annis, Matt Price, Hilary Ling, Audrey Harvey, Sally Leigh, Richard Phillips and Lesley Phillips. Also, thanks are due to John Ling and two non-residents of the village who assisted along with the above committee members throughout the painting week.

The only part that is outstanding is the painting of the extension wall. A couple of volunteers for this work would be appreciated, either from the committee or the village residents.

The Bergh Apton Village Hall Management Committee is very appreciative of the following that gave their time/materials free of charge for the painting project:

Mick Hardesty repaired the car park double doors and the kitchen door. He is also to provide a new set of entrance doors, when his carpenter returns to work after an operation.

David Cooper provided and fitted new glass for the gentleman’s toilet that had been cracked for a long time.

Simon Smith provided all the paint for the hall.

Because of the generosity of all of the above, the cost for this work was kept to a minimum and once the wall has been painted we are sure that the outside of the hall will be of a satisfactory appearance until our upgrade of the hall takes place.
